ReDuce, ReUse, ReCycle!

Do you recycle? How about reuse items? Or do you try and reduce your waste to shrink your carbon footprint? HHmmm .. it's hard to do, but in this day and age, these habits could prove rather important to Our Mother Earth.

I remember growing up and watching the commercial on TV with the old indian that was crying when he saw all the gargage. Very poignant and made quite a statement, even during the late 70's. I don't think a lot of the commercials they have no days have quite the impact the Indian commercial did on me back then. Kind of like the Smokey the Bear commercials did ... "Only YOU can stop forest fires!"

I make my family recycle -- they get annoyed. But it helps our trash bill tremendously. There are a lot of plastics here in Spokane that I cannot recycle so I try to find new uses for them. How about cutting off the top of your laundry jugs and using them for plant starters? I am thinking about starting an indoor garden with them. LOL My cats need grass. HAHA Our recycle guys don't pick up any solid colored plastics like laundry and juice jugs. So I have gotten creative.

We are looking into Wind and Solar power -- we can't afford to convert right now, I have found out some interesting information about wind generators that you can attach to your roof or fence. And still get enough energy built up to have left overs that we can sell back. I've replaced our light bulbs with those cool ones that last forever -- well, sadly they are made in China and it's a bad thing if they break -- read the box -- however, my energy bill is getting lower. I would like to find a better light bulb, preferably made here, but until that happens, I am happy with my bill going down.

I am integrating the "Going Green" to GRT, as well! My home office is getting filled with "FreeCycle" items weekly. I pay a little more for recycled paper for my printer and even started getting recycled ink cartridges. I reuse all my mailing supplies, including reusing packaging materials from packages I have received. I am even investing in a paper shredder to cut down on the use of that dreaded popcorn packing stuff! GGRRR LOL
I have finally convinced my kids that water out of the tap is better than bottled. Of course when we are out and about -- I will buy bottled water over soda, however not when I am at home. That is a long way from when I was of the notion that bottled water was better. Isn't it funny how things change over time? It all makes me giggle!

Why am I blabbering about this? Well I have made GRT officially a "Green Office" -- I've even gotten a cool "certificate" to put on the site. It is fitting since my candles are made with natural soy wax, all cotton or hemp wicks and I try to reuse all my containers. I'm so excited, I even found a supplier that I can get recycled glass candle jars! And priced decently too! Woot!

I am starting a new label for recycling on my blog that will be filled with ideas, crafts, pics and whatever else I can find on my own ReCycle Journey!

Happy Recycling!

Could this man be more inspiring? Holy Crap, Batman!!!! I haven't watched the Olympics at all -- yes, call me whatever you want. But last night the DBF wanted to watch Michael Phelps win the Gold -- okay he was out before 930pm. LOL Now I usually change the channel but I was so mesmerized by the women runners that I didn't change it.

And boy am I glad I didn't. I watched the womens singles -- we got the silver, then I watched the womens relay! The silver again, but DANG those Aussies can swim. Then all the hubub .. the reason the DBF wanted to watch .. yeah snoring away! HAHA He missed it! I didn't! Thought I was going to wake him up though with all my cheering and whooping! Yes, in my PJS! It was amazing!

Not only did this young man (cutey pa-tutey I might add) beat Spitz' 7 Gold record after 35 or 36 years *yeah holy crap, batman* but he and his teammates kept America's top spot in the 400 meter relay! WOOT! Records broke, 8 Gold medals won ... and he still shows his mom the love! This boy is just so darn sweet! I now understand the hoopla and why my girls are all googly eyed! LOL

Kudos to all the winners! I am inspired and awed at the same time! and I am so glad I did not change the channel!

Just had to share my Olympics moment! -- even if it was in the middle of the night! LOL
